Meet Radiant Orchid: Pantone's Color of the Year
Each year, we wait with anticipation for Pantone to select their Color of the Year, which plays a major role in the trends for the next 12 months. After polling a multitude of experts in manufacturing, fashion, retail and other industries, the company names a hue that will dictate everything from what people wear to how they decorate their homes. So what color should we start focusing on for 2014? Introducing: Radiant Orchid, a gorgeous shade of pinkish purple.
"Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. "An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today's society. An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm."
Fortunately, Radiant Orchid makes a fetching addition to every home. As the color of royalty, this hue instantly adds an air of elegance and refinement. If you aren't ready to paint your walls in this statement shade, you can still add eye-catching accents with purple flowers.
A range of purple and lavender options
There are a multitude of purple and lavender blossoms to choose from in Pantone's Color of the Year. A bouquet with lavender roses and alstroemeria has a soft romance that looks stunning in any room. Or, you might consider an arrangement with lavender stock and waxflower, which evoke an English garden feel.
A combination of lavender matsumoto asters and cushion spray with chrysanthemums looks especially striking with pink roses and fresh greenery. Why not put the blooms in a purple glass vase to really pull it together?
Of course, the best way to celebrate the Color of the Year is with orchids. A purple phalaenopsis orchid plant potted in a modern bamboo vase brings an air of serenity and elegance to the home, and also makes a wonderful gift. Exotic purple mokara orchids are nicely accented by tropical greens including green flax, sword fern, red ti leaves and galax leaves.
Enhance any room's zen and feng shui with an arrangement of purple dendrobium orchids, green carnations, dark pink Sweet William, green hypericum, emerald palm leaf, bamboo-like equisetum, galax leaves and sheet moss.
Radiant Orchid complements olive and deeper hunter greens, and offers a gorgeous combination when paired with turquoise, teal and even light yellows.
Likewise, the vibrant color is sure to liven up neutrals including gray, beige and taupe. Uplifting and bold without being overpowering, Radiant Orchid re-energizes almost any color palette and provides a unifying element for diverse spaces.
