Flower Lady retires from Missoula, MT

by webdev

February 28, 2011

For a generation, Wanda Bretz has been the proud owner of the "Flower Lady" title in Missoula, Montana. As a maintenance technical assistant of the city's Parks and Recreation Department, she has helped beautiful buds flourish all over town, according to The Missoulian.

Now, after 30 years, Bretz has retired from her position. Her whole career started as a temporary job after college, but it quickly grew on her.

"I was just looking for a summer job at the parks department," she told the news provider. "My parents were gardeners. So I asked and learned from a lot of people. In 30 years, you learn a lot of stuff."

Each of Missoula's 15 flower beds was meticulously arranged by Bretz. Many have come to recognize her work as symbolic of the passion of the city itself. Now that she's looking forward to retirement, she plans to spend a little more time creating contemporary floral arrangements for her own garden.

Those who are looking to start their own garden or put a little more emphasis on buds at home may want to buy flowers such as petunias, because they can offer an unforgettable dazzle to any room, according to McClatchy Newspapers.
