Couple grows flowers to boost winery area

Spring flowers are set to bloom on a site in Northern California that neighbors decried an eyesore to visitors coming to popular wineries nearby, the Lompoc Record reports. Jeff Hendrickson and Roxanne Renner, proprietors of the Santa Rita Flower Farm, a community-supported agriculture (CSA) organization, jumped on the chance to help.

The couple was asked by a friend of a friend about any interest in planting at the site, where a new wine center wants to set up shop. In addition to beautifying the area, the partnership helps the CSA, the news outlet reports.

The Santa Rita Flower Farm, which operates out of Drum Canyon near Santa Barbara, Califoria, risks frost from November through April, which cuts five months from its flower production season. The new site is located in a warmer climate zone and is somewhat protected from the elements by the wine center.

Passersby will enjoy plenty of spring flowers as they arrive to taste the wines of Northern California in the next few months. You can also bring the colors of spring into your home if you order online flowers like spring tulips or indoor plants like Teleflora's Spring Has Sprung Mixed Basket.
