Celebrate National Hugging Day with flowers

January 23, 2012

Hugging is a nice thing to do every day, but Kevin Zaborney thought there should be a special day devoted to this loving act. That is why the University of Michigan and Boston University graduate chose January 21 as National Hugging Day.

According to Zaborney's official website for the holiday, it was first celebrated in 1986 and was founded as a way to encourage family members and friends to hug often and freely with one another. The website states that while not everyone necessarily loves to hug, there is a wide array of research that shows the ways in which positive touch, such as that from hugging, can improve a person's physical, emotional and spiritual health.

Of course, it is never too late to celebrate National Hugging Day, even if you missed the official holiday. If your special someone is too far away to hug, consider sending flowers to say "I love you" instead. Teleflora's Bear Hug Bear with Pink Roses is a perfect option for this occasion. With charming pink blooms and an adorable teddy bear hugging the vase, there is no better way to show your affection for a friend or loved one.
