Amateur arranger takes home table setting prize

July 26, 2010

At the 2010 Alice Smith Flower Show in Hill City, South Dakota, Tanya Manus celebrated after wining several prizes in the table setting category of the event.

According to the Rapid City Journal, despite the fact that it was her first time entering the contest, Manus took home the blue ribbon as well as the best of show and the people's choice award. The winning entry featured roses, orange lilies and purple poppies.

The flowers rested on a black and gold scarf laid across a tablecloth. Alongside the flowers were brass items from the Middle East and two elephant figurines made in Pakistan.

"I love the creative challenge of taking things from here and things from there and making something beautiful," Manus told the news source. She added that the table setting, which she calls "Moroccan Garden" was inspired by her belly dancing hobby.

Poppies, such as those used in Manus' display, are an excellent choice for a vibrant bouquet. Those who want a fragrant poppy should consider incorporating Iceland poppies into their arrangement, which come in a variety of color and have very fragrant blossoms, according to GardensAblaze.com.
