Exciting events in store for 70th birthday of film classic 'The Wizard of Oz'

If you’re a fan of The Wizard of Oz, you’ll want to know about some very cool happenings in honor of the movie’s 70th anniversary.

First, Sept. 29, Warner Home Video will release (on Blu-Ray™ and DVD) the 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition of the film, which has been beautifully re-mastered for today’s viewers.

Teleflora, in partnership with Warner, created a commemorative bouquet to celebrate this special occasion. It’s a great keepsake collectible and makes a terrific gift for any Oz devotee.

Reminded me of Christmas 1963. After an almost year long struggle between the US Immigration and the USSR Immigration we managed to get exit visas for my husband's parents from the then Republic of Czechslovakia. Then a 6 month sturggle to get all the travel arrangements and the visas for them to come into the US. Finally on 23 December we went to NYC to get them. His Mother refused to fly so they came on the Queen Mary. Coming home we encountered a blizzard and were stuck in a diner in a small town about 50 miles from home until the snow plows got the road cleared. Finally getting home I was preparing dinner and my daughter then 3 and her new Grandma sat down before the TV to watch the Wizard of OZ. Barbara, who spoke not a word of English was so fascinated by the movie she opted to eat her first American dinner in front of the TV. I thought then she will make a good American. Ha! Ha! Footnote: that 3 year old also graduated from the UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine in 1998. Go figure.
