A floral find on the Oregon coast

by Karin - Merchandising

I visited the beautiful Oregon coast recently and was surprised to find, as I drove into the city of Brookings, that I was in the “Home of Winter Flowers.” Good timing! Since the light was getting low, I quickly found the botanical garden in the middle of town to see what I could find. Soon I was surrounded by a variety of flowering plants, many of which are native to the area.

Hi,

My wife and I named our daughter, who is now in first grade, "Vandala" after the flower. However, when my daughter started searching for pictures of the flowers, we noticed that most online shops that sell them spell it "Vandela". I also found some references to "Vandaela", but I cannot seem to be able to search for "Vandæla" in most databases.

I could not find any of these terms in any botanical database, so I am speculating that it must be a common or regional name.

Has anyone heard or can find references to this flower? Can you please point us to a botanical reference, or an authoritative source for how to spell it? We may need it as evidence for our daughter's name-changing lawsuit. Smile

Thanks,
